Dear Mr. C,

I have just read your ofsted report. Dead impressive! I knew those parking controls would help improve the curriculum.

I attended Mells school in the early 1940's when I was an evacuee. I loved it and spent most of the war years living with my aunt at Rock Cottage.
I am visiting the area again next week and will certainly visit Mells. It was nice to see your site.

It was nice to see photos of our friend Luis who lived in Harrogate near us. Ben thought that it was strange seeing his friend in a dress!! We hope it was an act!

Yesterday my partner and I were visiting my parents for the day, and my sisters and brother and I drove to Mells and parked outside the school. First time we've been back, and it hasn't changed a bit in all these years! Brought back loads of happy memories, and I think I speak for Cathy and I when I say that Mells is somewhere we'll always hold dear to our hearts.

Hi there,
Just reminiscing over my "youth" and decided to see if I could find anything out about Mells school. It was a pleasant surprise to see it has its own website now. Good to see its keeping up with the times....
I went to the school around 1974 and have fond memories of playing out the front on the lawn across the road and in front of the school, espcially throwing hard cowpats like frisbees after the cows had walked over our play area.... And had many days coming home after school with cow dung on my clothes. Looking at the downward view of the picture it doesn't look like its changed one bit. Shame my kids wont have the privilige of going to school there as we live in New Zealand now... The headmaster then was a Mr White. I had the privilige of feeling the cane a couple of times but we wont go there.... Hope it continues for many more generations.....

Hi Aliens,
Do not let James read this!
Just wanna say that I miss your school, but have found Mrs Voake! Her school is great. I'm not gonna put a word in about comparison, because, well, you should know why. Mr C, I want you to teach my brother (James) more than lessons, manners as well, because he is (as always) getting on my nerves! If he gets on your nerves as well, just email and I'll get right onto it! I repeat, do not let James read! I'll be for it if you do!

When I was at mells it really gave me a head start in my next school. I've lost my old adress book and would love to met up the the class I left in yr 1. If you think you recognise my name, or some of the following, could you please leave a comment, and maybe, your e-mail?!? I love to hear from you, but my e-mail is down, so if you could leave them on the site, it would be FAB!

Lol Lucy Howlett (monty and the crab!!)
(here are some other people who I can remember the names of in my class - Georgia Macarthy, Jeannie, Alex, Rupert, Victoria, Katherine Reggler, Carmen, Jack Smiles, or if you know Ellie Butcher, or Lily Bennet or Ellie White I'm in touch with them. Or if you remember Chloe Sefton, who touched all our hearts.)

I often think of my time at Mells with fond memories. I wonder if anyone remembers me? I guess it's unlikely that teachers remember individual pupils. However, if anyone's interested... I've been given an unconditional offer to read Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at St John's College Oxford! Woohoo!!

REPLY: Well done Rachel - that's brilliant!
Of course we older teachers remember you (Mrs Dart says "Hello and congratulations!" and Mrs Hodder still comes in to do supply from time to time and will be pleased with your news)
Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping in touch!

Hello - I saw the ariel picture of the school and it doesn't look to have changed a bit - I moved to Mells from London aged 4 and a half after my mother died in 1954. I lived in the school house with my aunt and Uncle - Edith and Les Mortimer who were the school caretakers and I attended the school when Mr Coombes was the head master. I have many fond memories of Mells and the school - it was great not having far to go to school in the mornings - sadly that all changed in 1961 when thanks to the education I received from the teachers I was able to pass the 11 plus and then it was up early every school day to catch a coach to Frome Grammer until 1963 when I returned to London. With the grounding I received I have gone on to become an Independent Financial Adviser with my own small company in Essex. I will always retain the fantastic memories of growing up in Mells - many Thanks

I left Mells School c. 1996 and it's only just occurred to me to see if it has a website! Is Mrs Hodder still there? Does anybody remember me? I have such fond memories of Mells! :-)
REPLY
Thanks for your comments, Rachel. The school has not changed a great deal but Mrs Hodder is no longer here - she retired last year. She does still keep in touch and indeed teaches here on occasions, which is wonderful!
Mrs Dart, Mrs Pritchard, Mrs Gallop and Tracey are all still here too!

I attended your school in the early 1950's, as did my father before me, when your school changed from all girls to co-ed.On my last visit to Mells, I thought neither the school or village had changed much in appearence, A pleasant suprise in this day and age.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, Mells is, thankfully, very much unchanged and is still a lovely place to work and to live.

Hello again Ellie!
It has been a great holiday except for the weather ( and it is too short for me!)
I hope you won the boules - what was the prize - a string of onions and a baguette?
I shall have to ask you to use your e-mail to send messages from now on - this is really for site visitors - not old friends!
Nice to hear from you again. Good luck in your new school.
