Achieve Economic Well-being
Children at Mells will handle money from an early age as part of ther Maths work.
From reception age they will play "shops" and learn that money has value.
They will be taught all the relevant mathematical skills needed to understand and handle money, data and numbers with confidence.
We are a fully-inclusive school and all children, whatever their background, gender, race and ability, will have equal access to all that is on offer.
We try to help children develop confidence in themselves whilst having empathy with others. The current work on SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) helps tremendously in this respect.
Children know that their opinion counts and will happily contribute in discussion groups, in class and in school assembles as well as in performance and media work.
The children are made aware of others less fortunate than themselves and they will often initiate collections, cake stalls etc for charities. We also sponsor a child in the Sout-East Indian village of Thandigudi.
