Enjoying and Achieving
We plan a wide range of activities for our children.
The reception children enjoy activities based on the Foundation Stage Curriculum, "Early Learning Goals".
There is a good balance beteween child-initiated tasks and teacher-directed tasks. The pupils enjoy lots of play and practical work building confidence and social skills.

We talk to the children as classes, groups and individuals and monitor their feelings and use the "traffic lights" system as a means of getting feedback from them on a whole range of issues.
Staff and children are fully aware of different learning styles and we aim to provide effective teaching for all.
Children achieve well. They are set personal targets and their progress towards those targets is monitored across the whole school. The attainment of children at Mells First School compares very well to national results.
To enable children to enjoy and achieve well, we are committed, as a school, to constant improvement through our annual School Improvement Plan.
