Making a Positive Contribution
Children contribute to the school in many ways.
They understand that their contribution is valuable and that it is valued.
Teachers of all ages of children build opportunities for pupil feedback into their teaching.
Children will be asked individually and in groups how well they have undersdtood their work, how happy they are with what they are doing, what they think they have learned, what they need to do better etc. Teachers typically use the "traffic lights" system to enable children to feed back instantly on all aspects of their work and play in school.
Older children undertake individual surveys and questionnaires and results are compiled and discussed.
A "School Council" of six children is elected each term by the children and this group meets weekly with the Head as well as being involved in aspects of school improvement (eg the development of the school grounds).
Each child contributes to a "Celebration Assembly" and shares work with other children and staff.
Film projects (eg Dads) involve all children and their families and Art ptojects such as pottery club, "Arts and Kids" and the "Keeper of the Gate" allow all to contribute and benefit.
Playground "Buddies" take responsibility for helping other children in the playground.
