Parachute Games
Below are the parachute games that we play at Mells School to keep us fit and active (and to have some fun!)
1. Rollerball
We stand in a circle and hold a handle of the parachute each.
We pull it tight and make it as flat as we can.
The leader rolls a light football into the parachute and, by lifting, lowering and pulling, we try to make the ball roll around the parachute without it shooting off the sides.
We try reversing the direction; clockwise, anti-clockwise.
2. Cats and Mice
Two children are under the parachute; they are the mice.
Two children take off their shoes and go on top of the parachute.
The circle of children moves the parachute up and down to create a ripply effect which hides the mice.
The cats try to catch the mice by diving and trying to trap them.
3. The Dome
We stand up stretching our arms high, lifting the parachute in the air.
We bring it down fast and sit quickly inside, creating a dome.
We have to swap places when the leader calls e.g.
"Anybody with a birthday in March!"
"Anybody with a little sister!"
"Anybody with a wobbly tooth!" etc.
4. Sharks and Lifeguards
Choose two sharks (under the parachute)
and two lifeguards (outside the circle of children)
Everybody sits in the circle with their legs hidden under the parachute.
From under the parachute the sharks try to pull children, by their legs, inside the parachute.
Captured children scream for help "Lifeguard, Lifeguard, Rescue Me!"
The lifeguards rush around the outside of the circle trying to pull them back out!
5. Jumping Beanbags
Four beanbags, one in each of the colours of the parachute, are placed on top of the parachute.
Each child decides which colour to support and shouts it out.
The parachute is pulled and jerked around so that the beanbags jump up in the air.
When the leader shouts "STOP!" the parachute is pulled tight and children can collect five points if their beanbag has landed on the correct colour.
REPEAT and keep collecting points until the end of the game.
6. Washing Tangle
A (light) child sits in the middle of the parachute and we walk around slowly, clockwise, to tangle the "washing" up it disappears.
On the command "UNTANGLE", the parachute is pulled out, slowly forcing the child to twist and untangle themselves.
