STAYING SAFE
We encourage children to stay safe through our direct teaching and through the establishment of safe practices and routines.
Teaching
The teaching of safety and danger are part of our PSHE planning and are delivered in discrete lessons and as assembly topics.
Topics covered include: Fire Safety, Road Safety, Bullying, First Aid, Saying "No" etc.
The wider school curriculum, and school visits from Police, Health Visitors and others help to re-enforce safety messages.
Recruitment and staffing
All our staff and visitors are CRB checked and comprehensive records are kept. Our interview and recruitment procedures are rigourous and are in line with government guidelines.
It is school policy to investigate all allegations of bullying and such allegations are taken seriously and dealt with promptly.
Regular discussions and teaching is provided in relation to bullying, for example within "Circle Time" with the result that children are confident and willing to discuss any issues with members of staff.
SEAL materials "Say no to Bullying" are in use from Autumn 2006.
Regular opportunities are made available for the children to report on incidences of bullying and/or discrimination. Results of these sessions indicate that incidents are not common and are dealt with effectively.
School Council is a group of six children elected by the children who meet weekly with the head to liaise over improvement to the school, events and charities and other issues that may arise.
They are confident to bring any problems to the attention of the Head and have instigated many successful projects.
School Environment
The school is a safe environment and risks assessments are carried out regularly, using Flamefast.
Supervision is good and behaviour is appropriate and safe.
All staff, including non-teaching staff meet regularly and discuss issues of safety and supervision, including child protection.
Staffing and Child Protection
A Staff Handbook summarises safety arrangements and is given to all staff, inc. supply staff and visiting students starting at the school.
The Child Protection Officer oversees our child protection arrangements which conform to "Working Together to Safeguard Children"

Our curriculum is designed to be all-inclusive and to teach about the multi-cultural society in which we live.
No racist incidents have been recorded this year.
Confident Children
We encourage children to be self-aware and self-confident so that they will always know to ask when they need help and to tell when there is a problem.
