Church Links
Mells School is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England School which means that it is a school run by Somerset County Council but which still retains its important links with the Church of England through St Andrews church and through the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
St Andrews Church in Mells
Our vicar, Martin Weymont, visits the school each week to take the Monday morning assembly. He also serves as Foundation Governor, along with Mrs Shirley Inch, on the school's governing body.
The children attend an Easter Service at St Andrews each year, led by Martin Weymont, and including parents and friends of the school .

The school's Religious Education provision is based on the Somerset "Awareness, Mystery and Value" (see Curriculum).
A daily act of collective worship takes place, led each day by a different member of staff, and including a time for prayer and reflection, a story from the bible and a hymn.
Christian principles are embedded in our aims and vision for the school and underpin our ethos.
Each daily assembly begins with the lighting of a candle and with the prayer:
We light the candle, for this is our special time,
To praise and thank our Lord,
To share our love and our feelings,
For we are His children.
Amen
Each class also leads one assembly each half-term to share special work and achievements with the rest of the school. This "Celebration Assembly" includes the awarding of Celebration Certificates and certificates and badges for swimming, gymnastics, etc. This begins with the prayer:
We light this candle
For this is our time to celebrate
To show our work and share our skills
Thank You Lord
For our talents and Your love
Amen
We have many other favourite prayers which we use regularly. These include:
The Lord's Prayer
Our father, in Heaven
Hallowed be your name
Your Kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us sins
As we forgive those who sin against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For the kingdom, the power
And the glory are yours
Now and forever
Amen
If Our School Were in Heaven
If our school were in Heaven
we would sweep the paths clean.
If our school were in Heaven
we would cultivate the garden.
If our school were in Heaven
we would keep our things neat.
If our school were in Heaven
we would display our work for the angels to see.
If our school were in Heaven
we would treat everyone as a child of God.
So here on earth we will do these things
and so make our school more like Heaven.
The following prayer was presented by the late Bishop Jim Thompson to the children and young people of the Diocese of Bath and Wells on 19th May 2000
The Millennium Prayer
O Lord
Let there be respect for the earth;
peace for its people,
love in our lives,
delight in the good,
forgiveness of past wrongs
and from now on a new start
Amen
