About The School
Mells School is a small, friendly and successful Somerset village school. It is a County Controlled Church of England First School established in the mid-nineteenth century and serving Mells and the surrounding villages.
It is a co-educational school providing education for children aged 4-9 years. There are currently 78 children on roll.
The school has three main classrooms, an ICT suite, Special Needs and Medical rooms, a Hall, Office and Staff room.
There is a tarmac playground to the side and rear of the building and an adventure play area and school garden. In addition to this, the school, which is set well back from the road, enjoys the use of the village green for sports activities. We are hoping to acquire a strip of land to the rear of the school as a sports field by Summer 2006.
The school is well resourced with an excellent stock of fiction and non-fiction books, extensive ICT facilities and software and up-to-date resources for the teaching of the whole National Curriculum and beyond.
Much successful work has been undertaken in recent years in Filmmaking, Dance, Drama and Music.

The Village Of Mells
Mells Church of England First School is situated on the edge of the village green in the uniquely preserved Somerset village of Mells, surrounded by open countryside on all sides.
The village has a busy Post Office and a local pub. Village functions are held in the restored Tithe Barn. There are several community groups including a Gardening Club, Cubs, Beavers and Rainbow Club and the Badminton Club.
There is a magnificent 15th Century church at the centre of the village and the school maintains important links with the church.
Disabled Pupils
It is our policy not to treat disabled pupils less favourably and we will take all reasonable steps to avoid putting disabled pupils at a substantial disadvantage.
We encourage early liaison to enable appropriate plans to be put into place for the successful integration of the individual pupil.
On receiving information on a child with a disability entering school, we will provide, plan and incorporate training needs, for accessibility and support also taking into consideration the physical organisation of classrooms and the school.
Staff seek to remove all barriers to participation and learning.
